Preventing Birth Trauma: How Birth Prep and Chiropractic Care Work Together

Preventing Birth Trauma: How Birth Prep and Chiropractic Care Work Together

Pregnancy is one of the most incredible, and vulnerable, times in a woman’s life. Every decision, every bit of stress, every moment of calm plays a role in shaping your baby’s developing nervous system.

At Early Beginnings, we talk a lot about something called The Perfect Storm — a term that describes how layers of stress during pregnancy, birth, and early life can build up and overwhelm a child’s nervous system. Things like maternal stress, difficult deliveries, birth trauma, or early medical interventions can all add to that storm.

But here’s the empowering part: when you understand what creates the storm, you can do so much to prevent it.

This was exactly my story.  During my first pregnancy, I followed the medical flow, adhering to all the recommendations and advice of my OB/GYN, whom I trusted.  Ultimately, my well-being was not supported, and my pregnancy and birth were medically managed as an urgent and dangerous event.  Following a failed induction and an emergency C-section, my oldest suffered with colic, which progressed into anxiety and difficulties in school.  We navigated the Perfect Storm for the first few years of her life, and that is when I said no more!

I was thankful for chiropractic to bring her out of the storm, but I wondered, could we have done more to prevent the cascade?  With my second pregnancy, I approached everything differently.  I worked on my health before I became pregnant, I hired a doula, and I took birth classes.  Webster's neurological chiropractic care was the cherry on top that helped me achieve an empowered VBAC.  Now, I spend my days helping moms just like you have the empowering birth of their dreams!

Understanding the “Perfect Storm”

The Perfect Storm doesn’t happen overnight. It builds.

Stress on mom → tension in baby’s nervous system → harder time adapting → traumatic birth experience → symptoms that show up as colic, reflux, sleep issues, immune struggles, or developmental delays later on.

It’s not about blaming anyone or anything; it’s about awareness. When we understand how the nervous system works, we can support it before challenges appear.

How Our Birth Class Helps You Stay Calm in the Storm

Our Natural Birth Class isn’t your typical hospital prep class. It’s designed to educate, empower, and connect you to your own intuition and physiology.

Here’s what we focus on:

  • Understanding how your body was designed for birth — and how to work with it, not against it.

  • Learning what interventions really mean, so you can make informed choices that align with your goals.

  • Preparing your nervous system for labor through movement, breath, and mindset.

  • Teaching your partner how to support you confidently and calmly.

Every class builds your confidence and awareness, helping you feel prepared no matter how your birth unfolds.

After two incredible and enjoyable birth experiences, I compiled everything I learned over 10+ years into a 4-part class.  Since then, I have had a fourth baby, born peacefully at home, and I continue to grow my knowledge about birth and the nervous system.

Everything I teach, I have learned through experience, not just reading textbooks.  Passing down the sacred knowledge of birth used to be from mother to daughter, but now we rely on each other to feel supported and held through the transition into motherhood.

Chiropractic Care: Supporting the Nervous System Before Birth

Education empowers your mind. Chiropractic care supports your body and nervous system.

Prenatal chiropractic adjustments are gentle and focused on helping your body adapt to the physical and neurological changes of pregnancy. By reducing tension and improving communication between your brain and body, your nervous system can shift out of “fight or flight” and into a calmer, more connected state.

That balance helps your body prepare for labor, improves pelvic alignment for baby’s position, and even helps with postpartum recovery.

When your body and nervous system are working together, you’re not just preparing for a birth day — you’re laying the foundation for a calmer, healthier start for your baby.

One of the most common comments I hear from moms who are experiencing chiropractic during pregnancy for the first time is about their birth and postpartum experience.

  • “I wish I had been here for my past pregnancies.”

  • “This birth was so much smoother, and I didn't need pain meds.”

  • “I am recovering so much quicker than last time, and getting adjusted was the only thing I did differently.”

  • “I am so glad I got adjusted during pregnancy, I was so comfortable and able to exercise the whole time.”

  • “This baby is so much calmer, happier, and sleeps better than my first.  I know its the chiropractic care.”

You Don’t Have to Weather the Storm

You don’t have to have a traumatic birth to know how to have an empowered birth.  The Perfect Storm doesn’t have to be your story.

Through education, preparation, and gentle chiropractic care, you can create a calmer, more connected start for both you and your baby.

My own first birth left me feeling like I would never have more kids.  It was traumatizing and it took me years to heal from.  But each one of my births has made me who I am today, and I am excited to share that with you.  You can have a calm, peaceful, enjoyable, and empowering experience through pregnancy and birth.  I am here to show you how.

If you’re ready to take that next step, we’d love to walk with you.
